Water-ski lift

In July 2008 on the Drwęckie Lake in Ostróda an 800-meter water-ski lift was launched. It is one of the greatest tourist attractions in the region. The water-ski lift ensures a safe and comfortable way of waterskiing because the skier is following one route only. Moreover, it is easier to learn the technique of waterskiing while using the water-ski lift than while following a motor-boat. The safety of the lift users is ensured by an instructor and a lifeguard. On the shore there are changing rooms and showers for water-ski lovers.

Kayak route

On the Drwęckie Lake there is also a professional kayak route where kayak competitions of all categories can be organized. It is equipped with a platform for a referee and auxiliary infrastructure. The former beach, used by the inhabitants and tourists in the 70s of the previous century, has also been recreated. New piers, social and technical facilities have been built and clean sand has been brought. There is also a ski equipment rental.

Sailing

Within the town limits there are 5 lakes. The largest one, Drwęckie Lake, is connected via the Ostróda-Elbląg Canal with the Vistula Bay. The Canal is a phenomenon of hydrotechnics in the global scale. The municipality possesses eight tourist ships under the name of Żegluga Ostródzko-Elbląska. The largest attraction of the region are Ostróda-Elbląg Canal cruises where you can see the only system of skipways still functioning in the world. Particular skipways, driven by water power, help to move the ships on special constructions on the ground. On five skipways, at the distance of about 10 km, the ships cover almost 100 m level difference by ?sailing? on grounds. www.zegluga.com.pl

Golf

At the distance of 35 km from Ostróda, golf lovers are awaited by a luxurious golf centre in Naterki - Mazury Golf & Country Club. There is an 18-hole golf course (par 72) designed by Martin Hawtree of HawtreeLtd. (Great Britain), the oldest company in the world specializing in golf course designs. Nature

In the vicinity of Ostróda there are 8 natural reserves including the closest ones: the Drwęca River Reserve and the Sosny Taborskie Reserve. There are also two natural landscape parks: the Iławskie Lake District and the Dylewskie Hills (a hill with an open ski lift).

Recreational activities

The town is surrounded with forests, fields and meadows offering excellent background for recreational activities and sports. One can choose from such activities as water sports, horse riding or hiking. Cycling excursions are also very popular.

History

In the vicinity of Ostróda there are Grunwald fields where a costume reconstruction of the Grunwald Battle with the participation of knights? brotherhoods from all over Europe takes place. In the region you can visit 12 gothic castles, one of them situated in Ostróda itself and 3 other within a 60 km distance from the town.
